While baby girls' names seem quite subject to the
whims of fashion and the top ten lists can change radically over
time, iin general, the top baby names for boys
remain close to the same year after year. Names like Joseph, Jacob and
Daniel are
perennials. We suspect that more boys are named after their fathers,
a practice which is not used by mothers generally. This seems to
perpetuate boys names over long periods, . Baby boys are
also less apt to be given fanciful and movie star names like many
girls.
